There are many ways to lose weight. Some advocate crash diets, some encourage low carbohydrate diets while others stress the importance of cardio exercises amongst many others. With so many choices, there will be many questions like which are the most effective or healthiest methods to lose weight.

Well, the healthiest method to lose weight is neither getting on fad diets nor sudden bursts of exercise. Neither of which is easy nor healthy.

Take for example, if you have not been exercising for many years and suddenly you put on your running shoes to run a few miles, you may be risking some joint injuries or getting a heat stroke. Furthermore, the struggle to complete those few miles may leave you feeling disheartened and eventually you may give up altogether.

The same goes for people who start starving themselves on some fad diets. Weight loss diets that severely restrict calories or the types of food that are “allowed” by the diet may leave you deficient in certain nutrients and vitamins and that could be harmful to your general health.

Actually, losing weight is an easy and simple process. Your body uses food for energy and it will store any excess calories as fat. In other words, if you eat more food than your body needs for its daily activities and cellular maintenance, you will gain weight. It is as simple as that.

So the solution is to eat lesser calories and increase your activity level to burn up even more calories. That is the reason why weight loss experts talk about proper eating and exercising in the same breath.

Therefore to lose weight effectively and healthily, it is a matter of lifestyle changes. Take for example, if you only consume 250 lesser calories a day and then exercise to burn another 250 calories, you will be in a calorie deficit of 500 calories a day.

Since one pound is equivalent to 3500 calories, a simple calculation will show that you can lose a pound every week just by using this method to lose weight gradually. In this way, you need not starve or beat yourself up with very vigorous exercises.

To further help you in your weight loss pursuit, here are two more tips. Firstly, the best time to exercise is in the morning before breakfast. This is because your carbohydrate store, known as glycogen is at its lowest level. This means that your body can start burning your fat quickly instead of using your glycogen first for energy.

Furthermore, when you exercise, you will raise your metabolic rate and since this is done in the morning, your metabolism will remain high for several more hours into the day and this again will help you to burn more fat.

Next, never skip breakfast. Take your breakfast immediately after your morning exercise. Skipping breakfast will slow down your metabolism and when you feel hungry, your body will take your muscle for energy instead of fat. This is your body’s natural survival instinct because it thinks that you are in a famine mode.

Losing weight is easy, isn’t it? Then start doing it now.
